- Most of the Voice-capapble modems are desighed to detect the tones which
- the faxes and modems transmit to the telephone line when they dial.
- the modem will then send a special tcode to the computer, indicating that
- the maodem has just detected that a fax or a modem call was detected.
- This of copurse relies on:
- 1. That the fax sends a calling tone,
- 2. that the calling modem sends a calling tone
- This is the case in 99% of the time, but there are exceptions sometimes.
-
- A call is usually judged to be a voice call if neither the fax or
- the data calls are detected...
-
- Of course if you are really clever with the frequency filters in
- your Modem DSP, you could set up a filter to detect
- the range of "voice" frequencies but then again the calling person
- does not usually say anything until spoken to by a live person,
- and besides men and women speak at different frequencies, etc etc..
-
- I havent yet seen a modem which does the above though...
